THE APPLICATION
PROCESS

It takes a certain type of person to work in HR for HM Prison Service. That's why we have designed an application process to assess your skills as a whole – from technical ability and experience to strength of character and ideas. We want you to get a feel for us as well. The process consists of the following 5 stages:

Throughout the application process you'll have to go through security clearance, provide references, and provide a countersignature (a passport photograph signed on the reverse by someone in authority e.g. your Doctor).

 

STAGE 1:

APPLY

You can complete an application form online, whether you're a new or existing user by returning to: HR Business Partner Roles. Alternatively, you can phone us on 0845 300 0798 quoting reference number 51056 and we will post the form directly to you. We are currently recruiting for these vacancies until 29th August 2008.

Should you be successful, you will be notified within 2 weeks after the closing date and progressed to the next stage.

STAGE 2:

OCCUPATIONAL PERSONALITY QUESTIONNAIRE

The Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ) is a personality questionnaire that looks at your behaviour at work. You'll be emailed a link to the OPQ online - this needs to be completed before the day of the telephone interview.

STAGE 3:

TELEPHONE INTERVIEW

Using your OPQ profile the interviewer will ask further questions to clarify their understanding of your behaviour at work. You will be asked competency based questions so will need to give specific examples of times when you have demonstrated the behaviours the interviewer is asking you about.

STAGE 4:

CASE STUDY

You will be sent a case study to complete at home in your own time before returning it to us for marking. The case study, while based on a fictitious scenario, will give you insight into working for HM Prison Service. You'll need to analyse a range of information in order to identify the key issues and make a number of recommendations.

STAGE 5:

FINAL INTERVIEW & PRESENTATION

If you are successful at the case study stage, you'll be asked to attend a final assessment consisting of a panel interview, a presentation and a question and answer session on your presentation. We will give you all the information you need on the day to prepare for the presentation. This will also be an opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities that they see for the role.
